Helping Today’s Design Engineers with Component Search Engines

Many small components compose the things we buy, ride in, and use everyday from companies. This gigantic ecosystem of different parts allows us to enjoy modern conveniences today. Designers and engineers are the ones who find, choose, and source the proper parts to build these products, but it’s a painstaking process that can take thousands of hours to fulfill.

Engineers need to select the right parts during the design process because the products we use involve a mix of components that manufacturers have to buy and create. Engineers can do this by reworking the components made by manufacturers, although this takes a lot of time and has low accuracy. They can also source the component data from the manufacturers themselves, but this also requires a lot of time and is limited in terms of formats and brands. Downloading user-generated resources is another option, however the content provided is not usually certified by the manufacturers and are unbranded. Sourcing design files straight from the manufacturer is a better option, but it still has limited brands to compare.

These issues aren’t a problem with a component search engine as they have a vast selection of brands, products, and formats to browse through while containing product data that is certified by manufacturers (making them very accurate) and content that is continuously updated. They also provide quick revision and turnaround times, allowing engineers to spend less hours in the day looking for component details or searching for the right parts and more time designing the products of the future.
