What Security Measures Are Inherent in G Suite?

That said, G Suite has significant security built into it. For example, your data is stored in multiple locations, with redundant backups, at one of Google’s 15 data centers around the world. You can control where your data is stored, to some degree. Storage is both encrypted and distributed, so you probably won’t need to worry about a hacker gaining access to your information by taking over a data center. You also don’t need to worry about a data center being physically destroyed, since there are multiple redundant backups around the world.

G Suite also offers a number of different tools for security administrators to use to keep their organization secure. For example, you can create and maintain secure logins for your employees. You can also enable two-factor authentication, which forces users to submit two different verifications of their identity—usually a password and a confirmation code from a mobile device or email address. On top of that, you can enable encrypted messaging and a host of other tools.

The Limitations of G Suite

That said, there are some limitations to the security coverage that G Suite can provide. For example:

  • Knowledge and access. G Suite may have lots of built-in security features and options for administrators, but if you don’t know those options exist, or if you don’t go out of your way to activate or use them, they’re going to be useless to you. Some administrators keep everything as default, without ever going out of their way to improve security.
  • Strict security and compliance regulations. Certain industries are required to maintain strict security and compliance protocols. For these industries, G Suite’s basic coverage may not be enough.
  • Phishing. In a phishing attack, a malicious actor disguises themselves as an authority, then tricks a victim into providing sensitive information, like login information or credit card numbers. If your employees see an email from Google, they may be fooled into providing their login information—and once that information is obtained, no amount of security can protect your account.
  • Ransomware. Ransomware is becoming more common, in part due to its accessibility. Ransomware is a type of malware that prevents the use of a machine, or sometimes an entire network, until a ransom is paid. If your employees aren’t careful, their devices could be infected, compromising productivity and potentially jeopardizing your sensitive information stored in the cloud.
  • Other software and hardware vulnerabilities. Understand that any of your company devices could be rendered vulnerable by a single vulnerability in their hardware or installed software; if someone gains control of the machine, or if malware is installed, it could eventually lead to their control over the entire device, or the entire network.
  • Human errors. It’s also possible for a simple mistake to lead to catastrophic results. If one of your employees chooses a weak password, or forgoes two-factor authentication, or if they do something foolish like leaving their password written on a sticky note by their desk, it could allow a cybercriminal to work around whatever other security measures you have in place.
  • Insider threats. Don’t underestimate the possibility of an insider threat. Many security issues originate inside the company—with the people who already have access to your data. Maintain strict internal operations policies, and restrict access to sensitive data if necessary.

Even though Google generally does a great job of protecting the data of its customers, G Suite isn’t a perfectly secure bundle of productivity tools—and you shouldn’t rely on it to keep your organization secure. It needs to be considered as part of a robust series of tools, policies, and protective measures to keep your organization secure.

Essential oils aid with respiratory disinfection further aiding you physically and mentally. Choose a smell that is soothing to you, and try to keep it in any room you may be spending time in.

Think Things Through

Go slow, look at all of your options. Take any outside noise away so you can effectively think about what you need and what you need to do. Thinking things through will also aid you with your overall interpretation of what’s around you. Making pro and cons lists when trying to make tough decisions can help you focus on the reality of the situation, rather than the emotional reactions all of us experience.

Who you are is really your purpose. Where you’re going is the picture of the future. And what will guide your journey are your values. So there are really three components involved:

  • Purpose: Your organization’s reason for existing. Sure, an auto shop might sell new tires, but their purpose is to keep drivers safe on the road. What’s your purpose?
  • Picture: This is the image of where you want to be in three, five, or 10 years. It’s the ideal image of the future. An auto shop might say, “We want to be the highest-rated tire installer in the city.”
  • Values: These are the morals and guidelines your company operates by on a daily basis. Going back to our example, an auto shop might have values of fair pricing and environmentally safe disposal of old parts.

When you combine purpose with picture with values, the result is your vision. And once you have a vision, it’s time to communicate it to your stakeholders. More specifically, you need to keep your employees informed.

A vision is basically an actionable explanation of your mission. Whereas a mission informs, clarifies, and appeals to the brain, a vision inspires, challenges, and appeals to the heart.

While certain people think best when presented with numbers and facts, the majority of people respond better to storytelling. Find a way to turn your vision into a relatable story that resonates with your audience. The story may change depending on the listener, but the substance of the message – the vision – remains the same.

4. Reiterate the Vision

You can’t tell your employees your vision at a company meeting in January and expect them to remember everything you said for the next 12 to 18 months. It’s important that you reiterate the vision continually. You can do this directly – reusing the same spiel – or indirectly – making offhand comments and suggestions here and there.

5. Help Them Understand What’s In it for Them

It’s one thing for employees to understand the vision, but do they understand what’s in it for them? When they see themselves as critical pieces to the puzzle, they’re much more likely to buy in and cooperate fully.

Taking the Lead

At the end of the day, a vision is only an idea until it’s actually put into practice. It’s up to you to not just communicate your vision through words, but to also follow through with your actions. When employees see consistency between what you say and do, they’ll be much more likely to follow suit.

Are Self-Driving Cars Really Safer?

Auto manufacturers and major tech companies have both been working consistently to get self-driving cars on the road as soon as possible. Obviously, profit is a major motivator here, but engineers and distributors are also motivated by the purported safety benefits of self-driving vehicles. Right now, something like 94 percent of car accidents are attributable to human error. If we could hypothetically reduce the rate of accidents with error-free self-driving cars, we could save tens of thousands of lives every year.

This depends on the assumption that self-driving cars are actually safer. Are they really?

Reliability

First, we have to look at a self-driving car’s reliability, compared to a person driving a similar vehicle. Autonomous vehicles rely on onboard software to monitor environments and exert control. They’re programmed to operate in a specific way, and will not deviate from their programming; in this way, they can be compared to a calculator. An adequately designed calculator will never give you the “wrong” answer to a mathematical equation, and a self-driving car will never decide to go against its programming to commit an error.

Importantly, self-driving cars will also be exempt from many of the factors that cause humans to get into accidents. Cars can never become intoxicated. Cars will never be distracted by a sensational billboard or the scene of an accident on the other side of the road. Cars will never suffer from road rage, or attempt to drive while tired. For these reasons, self-driving cars already have a leg up on their human counterparts—regardless of their inner workings.

That said, the type of programming associated with the car matters—and there’s no guarantee it can function perfectly 100 percent of the time.

Detection Systems

One of the main systems a self-driving car uses is a sophisticated detection system. Using a variety of cameras, radar, and lidar, the car “sees” its environment, looking for street signs, traffic lights, and of course, pedestrians. Companies like to showcase their software when it’s working at its peak, but some studies suggest that detection systems fail to notice pedestrians in an alarming number of cases, and certain weather conditions can greatly compromise the integrity of the system.

In other words, while a self-driving car can hypothetically operate the vehicle more safely than a human, there’s no guarantee that its data feed is going to be perfect; it can’t avoid hitting a pedestrian if it doesn’t even know the pedestrian is there.

Hacking and Software Integrity

There’s also the problem of security—and software integrity. These days, all it takes is a guessed password and/or an exploited vulnerability for a malicious actor to gain access to any device or system. If a malicious person were to gain control of a self-driving car, they could hypothetically sabotage it, or control it as they see fit, potentially putting countless lives in danger.

Tech companies are acutely aware of this, and scrambling to improve software security to such a degree that hacking becomes a non-issue. But hacking isn’t the only way to exploit a vehicle’s software. For example, a clever prankster in 2017 was able to “trap” self-driving vehicles in a modern-day salt circle, using a solid white line to confuse the vehicle’s software and prevent it from leaving a location. On an even simpler level, pedestrians could learn to walk in front of self-driving vehicles with reckless abandon (and a false sense of security), due to the vehicle’s deep-seated programming to avoid hitting pedestrians at all costs. These risky behaviors could eventually lead to tragedy—especially in a time when both self-driving and traditional vehicles are on the road.

Of course, there’s an important caveat here; traditional cars can be exploited in the same ways. Someone could hack into a self-driving vehicle and make it crash into a wall, sure, but they could also cut the brake lines for the same effect. Someone might be able to trap a car in a salt circle, but they could also deflate the tires of a traditional vehicle and leave it equally helpless.

The Bottom Line

So what’s the bottom line? Right now, self-driving cars have a handful of advantages over human drivers, but there are also some weaknesses that can’t be ignored. Their autonomous, emotionless nature means they’re never going to suffer from the most common preliminary causes of accidents (like intoxication or rage), but their sensors and programming are nowhere near perfect.

The good news is that self-driving vehicle technology is constantly getting better. Companies understand the weaknesses of current autonomous systems, and are working aggressively to make up for them. Every year, autonomous vehicle safety gets a little better—and a little closer to totally eclipsing the safety capabilities of human drivers.

MAGFAST Announces Packaging Update and MAGFAST Time Charging Solution

Developing innovative, game-changing products in an ever-crowded marketplace isn’t easy. It’s why the MAGFAST team worked tirelessly over the holiday break to continue developing, creating the best customer experience possible, and solving a major new challenge almost immediately it became a problem.

MAGFAST CEO Seymour Segnit believes that the perception and experience one has with a product begins when the consumer takes it out of the packaging and opens the box. “We tend to think of packaging as nothing, but it’s incredibly important,” he said in a recent update. Expanding on this, he explained that unappealing packaging makes the product feel like an afterthought and doesn’t communicate how much care or planning went into the development of the product itself, while a great package reaffirms that a product is going to be incredible.

While Segnit was working to develop the final MAGFAST packaging, however, the team discovered a separate  problem. When creating products to power iOS devices – such as the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch – there are far more rules, regulations, and standards involved.  Companies need to comply with these to be MFi certified and get approved by Apple, and a snag in the plans for MAGFAST Time – MAGFAST’s unique solution for charging the Apple Watch – looked like it could become a major issue.

Apple’s official charger for the Apple Watch is simple and beautiful, but it is also patented; only Apple can create Apple Watch chargers with a pop-out hole through the center on which the device can rest. The MAGFAST team reworked the raising mechanism and changed the design to avoid infringing on this patent. Then, they learned that even though Apple’s own charger did not perform such a function into achieve the MFi certification, the vertical watch docks (meaning those at over 45 degrees of elevation) must be adjustable for different sizes of Apple watches.

In his video update, Segnit explained that problems like these are more common than ever before for companies like MAGFAST. “Suddenly, Facebook changes the algorithm, Google changes the advertising terms, or Apple changes the rules, and these can be showstoppers for smaller companies.”

The engineering team solved this by allowing the new Apple Watch mount to tilt up to 44 degrees, so the product can be mounted perfectly atop the platform no matter what size it is, while the band flows naturally and doesn’t require any adjustment. In vertical mode, MAGFAST Time’s platform can hold the Apple Watch at 90 degrees, again without changing anything on the watch.

“I nearly had a heart attack,” Segnit said of the significant engineering changes that needed to happen fast, but by working hard over the holiday, the company has improved its innovative products. Now, Segnit loves how they fit together as an elegant, complete package designed to make charging the best experience possible.

“One of the things I’m most proud of” he says “is that every time we’ve hit some seemingly impenetrable brick wall – some show stopping problem with product development – on each occasion we’ve not only solved the problem but made the products even better for our customers.
